Google’s View – Good Quality Content

When search engines visit your website they crawl all the public pages which do not have “n0-index”, “nofolow” meta tags attached. The content on those pages are the King for your ranking. The private pages are not visited by Google or Bing so contentration should be kept on good quality content on public pages. The public pages in Buddy Zone are:

  • Blogs
  • Forums
  • Stories
  • Videos
  • Forums
  • Classifieds
  • Games
  • Shop

How to develop good quality content on the above pages. The first question you need to ask is how much time will you spend reading the content or looking for more content on your website. If your answer is 5 seconds than you probably need to work to generate more quality content. Now ask yourself one more question, how much time does a user need to find your content, If the answer to your question is as lower as possible than you are on right track, if not then you need to reorganize your content. As an example, if you want content that relates to programming languages then add the languages as categories, like e.g. PHP, C++ and add content/blogs under those categories, do not leave the user hanging where to find content for a particular aspect. The more categorized your content is the better are your chances to keep a user.

How does content categorization affect Google ranking?

Almost all browsers today have google toolbar installed and almost all website’s use google analytics for their tracking.  So google can easily track how much time a user spends on your website. If a user comes to your website looking for php article’s and finds them interesting, they will click on php category of blog and look for more articles. This will retain the user and will increase your google ranking.

How does google determine if a website has quality content?

The most important factor is amount of time spent by a user on your website. If your users read articles and spend more then 10 minutes on your website you will definitely have a repeat visitor and will be ranked in google as well.

What not to do in your content planning?

Do not stuff keywords in your article, write for your user/customer not for google. Google will find you no matter what, if you have good content and repeat visitors, google will give you reward for your effort and will give you rankings. If you write articles for search engines you will never be able to get a user back as they will not be able to read the article.
